Volcanic forcing

Contact: Matthew Toohey (mtoohey@ifm-geomar.de)

Large positive perturbations to stratospheric sulfate aerosol burden resulting from volcanic eruptions have significant -- if short-lived --  effects on the Earth's surface temperature and atmospheric circulation.
Assessing the response to prescribed volcanic forcings in climate model simulations is useful for model comparison, and promises to advance our understanding of the mechanisms by which volcanic eruptions can affect atmospheric dynamics.
